Know-How of Industrial Laundry

Industrial laundry refers to laundering activities on a large scale.  An industrial laundry can either be an on-premise laundry (OPL) or an independent laundry company that offers services to large institutions like restaurants, hotels, hospitals. Industrial laundries are large-scale laundries offering turnkey solutions to end-users of textiles. The industry features service providers taking care of the garments, the logistics, the quality, and customer satisfaction.

Due to the large number of garments treated, processes automation and information management are very significant for industrial laundries, Technologies such as robotics, RFID tags, etc. are constantly being developed, in order to ensure a better quality of services and improved profitability.

In a world where a first impression is the last impression, appearance is a passive way of ensuring that. And neat, crisp outfits play a huge role here. With the COVID-19 pandemic wrapping the world, the awareness around “hygiene” and “cleaning” has made people want to clean linen at regular intervals – be it at hotels, hospitals, or any other manufacturing unit.

The World Health Organisation [WHO] and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] recommend washing linen for a specific time and at a certain temperature. Now, this isn’t what commercial laundries would like to do, creating a need gap for hospitals, hotels, and several other units. Several such global mandates have forced such entities to prioritize laundry & hygiene.

Prior to the pandemic, the Indian laundry industry stood at USD 76 Billion in 2018, with a growth rate mirroring the apparel industry.

To understand the real need of the market, our team spoke to several business units across Mumbai & Pune and a common ask was the need for certified personnel who could cater to their dry cleaning needs. Finally, with a cumulative experience of 100+ man-years, our team decided to launch the ‘Professional Laundry Education’ to train and empower technicians and entrepreneurs in this field.

We first spoke to key stakeholders in this segment, after which PLP is launching this course to learners, ensuring that we promise only what we can deliver.
